It was quite cold and rainy evening but it didn’t stop me from jumping into my car and heading to Valletta.
And I was glad I did.
As soon as I stepped into the shop, and before I had the chance to look around I found myself holding a glass of Bailey’s and a Baci. Very tasty and warm welcome indeed.
After making my life that tiny bit sweeter I started to look around and pointing to dresses, jumpers, coats and handbags that catched my eye.
My style is not very feminine, but I saw these long dresses, and simple couldn’t stop thinking how would I look wearing them for NYE. Long, princess dress is definitely missing in my wardrobe. That peach one on the left stole my heart.
In winter I am very attracted to everything fluffy. Most probably because I see it as a great option to protect myself from the inhumanly cold times in Malta. I wish humidity just disappears - I might put that one on my Xmas Wishlist, ha!
Passing by the handbags I spotted this shopper with small black and yellow details. It would so compliment my outfit I was wearing. Don’t you think so?
The ultimate winner of the night is this structured blue coat from Oasis. I love blue and this winter it’s the new black!
While trying on the coat I bumped into Caroline, stylist and fashion blogger for Caroline’s Fashion Styling that confirmed my choice and left with words “just get it”
It was a lovely evening with a bubbly bunch of style savvy girls.
Well done to beautiful Aida and everyone involved in organizing this event. We want more!
Short sneak peek Instagram video about who and what was happening yesterday.
Besides being a fashion stylist I definitely am one hell of a digital enthusiast. You can see me running around constantly holding my iPhone, replying to emails, updating my social profiles or simply having a virtual conversation with my clients or friends.
The name of the app pretty much explains what you could do with this app. You can virtually browse a wardrobe consisting of 4 outlets with brands like MEXX, Hugo Boss, Boss Orange, FCUK, CK Jeans, G-Star and Samsonite. I find Virtual Wardrobe as a very user friendly app with simple menu divided into 4 categories for Women, Men, Mini & Kids & Juniors and Travel products.
The category that instantly caught my eye was Outfit Creator. Outfit Creator is a fab function where you can not just browse the latest pieces in stores but also create an outfit to your liking. Once you create your outfit using items you like, you can send an email with a link to your creation, add your contact details and order everything with one click, just like that.
I buy most of my clothes and shoes online. I somehow don’t seem to have time to go round the shops and look for that something I might like anymore. I prefer to browse what’s available on my phone and simply order and buy it with few clicks. I especially like this function, I think it could be quite handy when I need to source a specific piece or pair of shoes for my next photoshoot or filming.
If you are happy with your outfit creations, and not that sure if you want to buy it straight away you can simply Save it. If you are using the app just for fun, or need an advice from your friends, it’s super easy to share it on your Facebook Timeline and ask your friends to have a look. You bet I gave it a shot. This is my creation.
I believe Virtual Wardrobe will make it to all fashion enthusiasts and style conscious individuals phones on the island.
The location for the first Pink (magazine) Fashion Show last Wednesday, was the bomb! Honestly, I have never been to a show in Malta with such a strong characteristic. The location was the winner!
I especially liked small details like lights on the runway. Awesome!
I personally never been to the Malta Aviation Museum, it was pretty big and cold. I liked how the location set the atmosphere for the show – we were taken back to 1940′s - models with curly hair and bold lipstick. The only black point goes to music selection. It would be great to listen to some modern jazz or swing tunes rather than deep club sounds.
Show with 8 brands showcasing the latest collection for fall/winter 2013 started with casual wear in iconic colors of Tommy Hilfiger, followed by evening pieces by Armani Jeans, and blue fur coat everyone was talking about. Third show was by Max & co. It was a nice surprise for me with a very sophisticated styles and patterns, followed by Monsoon showcasing mainly lovely evening and party dresses. Great selection of bags by Coccinelle was presented by Supernova finalists wearing black dresses, followed by modern business women looks by Marks & Spencer, and more glitters and shine in party looks by Guess. The last one was Blumarine by Sarto. Fuchsia, diamond blue and abstract flower all in one collection. Everyone seemed to be liking the rose print coat, but my absolute winner was flower printed oversized coat.
Blumarine opened the show with full on fuchsia outfit. I can totally see myself wearing it. Blumarine’s collection was on another level. From mind-blowing coats to outstanding long gowns. You must see it!Read More
I was into shoes in general since a very young age. Shoes were actually the item I used to build my outfit around. I remember buying the weirdest pairs of shoes you could ever image at my primary school. Those were the times when I was a super fan of Spice Girls and their 10cm platform shoes. Yes, of course I have a pair like that. If I wore them more than twice I would be exaggerating. Walking was simply impossible.
Growing up (or getting old?) I started to consider the comfort and quality of the shoes more than the look and coolness of them. Up until a year ago I used to wear more comfortable but still high heeled shoes on a daily basis, to work, gym and parties too. I couldn’t even imagine leaving my house in anything but heels. I used to have a pair of Superstars by Adidas I used to wear at night to my hip-hop classes only!
Today, I am a very proud owner of flats, ballerina shoes, hi-top wedge boots and my latest buy – neon yellow Nike trainers. I bought them before summer for my morning runs along Ta’xbiex Marina.
Few months after I see trainers in fashion magazines, and all over blogs, and I like it. I am not talking about Converse, nor hi-tops wedge ones here. I am talking about pure professional trainers for running with special padding and all that stuff that makes running and walking comfortable.
These 3 bloggers are pulling of this latest trend pretty well. It seems like bright colored ones are on top of the list and jeans seem to be the “it” item to wear them with.
I was browsing ASOS and found these NIKE trainers that fit the description. What do you think?
For less adventurous ones I found these New Balance trainers that will go pretty much with everything.
I am pretty sure that trainers will make it to cocktail parties and dancefloors of the night clubs in no time.
Look at this look from Asos Magazine. Isn’t it super?
Trainers are on my mind for the next shoot I will work on or an outfit post for the blog.
I am not a very frequent blogger. I am actually not that great at being a blogger, but I definitely am a passionate stylist.
Last week I was in Spain. I was a head stylist for Runway Select event happening in Gibraltar. It was my second time this year, and I was happy to be back again to style this amazing event.
In short, Runway Select is a sister event of Runway, it’s more exclusive with more mature audience, champagne a glamorous outfits on the red carpet.
I love traveling to Spain to work on Runway, it’s very refreshing and inspiring to meet new models, new designers and pull off a show in basically 2 days! It’s a pretty big event with a crew of around 50 people including make-up and hair stylists, dressers, backstage photographers and other helpers.
I was travelling with 2 models from Malta, Francesca and Stephanie that were walking in Runway Select. We left Malta on Thursday at around 3pm and arrived to Spain at 11pm (we had a stop in Italy). The morning after, we had to be in Gibraltar for fittings – the day where I get to meet all models and designers.
Fittings started at 2pm. Each designer gets a list with models that are walking in his/her show and they are trying a dress by dress to see who fits that outfit best.
My job during the fittings is to help designers to fit the models. Get that outfit on the right model.
The first designer I was working with was Christel and her brand Shorji – street and sportswear brand. Christel was the winner of last Runway show and already back then I was impressed by her items. Super wearable and extremely fashionable.
Her collection was divided into 2 parts – sportswear – leggings and tops with a wristband.
The second part of the collection were bodycon dresses in black and purple. We decided to add some accessories to go with the dresses to create more edgy look.
Shorji based her collection around black color, some leopard and zebra print sportswear items leading to more elegant designs in purple at the end of the collection. I adore all those small details on each design – wristbands and cut out dresses. Have a look at the whole collection and also a review of the collection from the front row.
After Shorjis’ fittings, I went to meet Geetu, head designer for Arjan B brand. Arjan B is a brand with some amazing, high quality, luxury eveningwear made in London using embroidered Italian silk chiffon.
Geetu is a very sweet and bubbly person, and it was a pleasure to work with her at Runway Select. You could see the passion in her eyes. That’s what I love – seeing the passion and energy to create beautiful dresses. Every single piece I touched from her collection was simply wow and unique. Her dresses would make any women feel like a queen You can have a look at the whole collection and also read an interview with Geetu about the collection.
Another international designer was Edeline Lee from London. Edelines’ designs were very structured with modernist lines and a very interesting decorative details.
Edeline was working hand in hand with her assistant so I left them at it. Have a look at Edelines’ whole collection and check out the review too.
Knowing that both designers worked for famous fashion houses made it even more exciting to work with them.
Besides myself there was Charlene, stylist & designer from Gibraltar. She was responsible for fitting models for high-street brands Boux, Next, Oasis and M&S.
Once fittings were done, all clothes had to be perfectly prepared in the exact running order, with the names of models on each outfit and every piece had to be steamed. This had to be all done before the show starts at 7pm the next day.
After fittings we went for a quick dinner at Ocean Village in Gibraltar, which is apparently a place to be on a Friday, with all the bars, restaurants and clubs. Staying out clubbing didn’t even cross my mind. Straight to the hotel and sleep I went.
We were meeting at 2pm the next day to start with hair and make-up for the shows. There were 22 models walking in the show. There were 7 shows in total starting with Shorji, followed by high-street brands of Boux, Next, Oasis and M&S. Arjan B started at 10.30pm and Edeline Lee at 11.30pm.
On this day I also met all backstage helpers, girls, that helped models change to their outfits during each show. Without dresses it’s basically impossible to make the show happen. We divided models we had to help change for each show. It’s quite though, you have to be able to memorize models names, you have to familiarize yourself with the outfits your model is wearing, how many times is she walking in each show and you have to know when is she walking too, all that in 1 hour.
I love it how backstage is buzzing all day long, seeing models and dressers discussing outfits or going over the choreography. Once the show starts, anything else stops, it’s all about getting the models dressed and undressed in a right outfit and on time . It’s definitely stressful but extremely enjoyable at the same time. I like to see those happy smiles on designers faces.
That was Runway Select. I love that mixed feeling of exhaustion and satisfaction. My feet were burning in pain but all I could feel was happiness.Read More
I was very excited to watch Luke Azzopardi’s show tonight and boy, he didn’t disappoint me.
He opened the show with simple black dresses bringing that feeling of sadness to the show. I don’t want to go into what was Luke’s idea behind the show. I’ll stick to commenting on colors and style. Black is definitely a great winter color and a black dress is an ultimate wardobe staple. The models were wearing gold accessories in their hair, I could see cross necklaces and earings too.
My ultimate favorite were those pieces made of printed fabric. Thanks to a friend of mine sitting next to me I know those were all famous paintings.
After black and printed pieces he started to introduce white into the show.
If I had to chose the most inspirational outfit it would be this one!
From black dresses to high waisted shorts and cropped tops to throw-overs, he showed it all!
I really enjoyed the show and I am looking forward to get to shoot some of his pieces!
Here is a short video of the showRead More
Today I uploaded a new profile picture on my personal facebook and for some reason I just scanned through my old ones.
It seems like I tend to cut my hair shorter at this time of the year. And I like it.
It’s good for several reasons, first of all I get rid of all damaged ends and it boosts my hair, secondly, change is good in general – it’s actually the only constant in life! – and thirdly, I am a fashion stylist and I must be inspired by the latest trends.
So here I am proudly showing off my new short A-line bob.
I definitely feel younger and my hair feels and looks really healthy. I am basically loving it.
I always cut my hair at Beauty Team salon in Mosta. Maria is my one and only hairdresser, excellent with colors and stylish cuts!
Before I made my decision I had a look at some all-time classics like Jennifer Aniston and Gwyneth Paltrow.
There is only one rule you should follow:
Short bob will suit those with a square face or strong jawbone, a relaxed style with longer layers will be more suited to those with round features. According to MarieClaire.
Well my face is squarish and I like my bobs longish. I think it suits me anyway :p
You can have a look and get some inspiration from celebrities with different bob styles here. There are 48 looks to see.
Red bob looks awesome!
So does the dark one.
I am looking forward to an event in the near future when I can twist the bob and go for these lovely waves.
What do you think?
Will you go for BOB this Fall?
I went to Notte Bianca the other day, firstly to see what is it all about ( I know it happened few times already, well I somehow missed it the previous years) and secondly to support my friend and their first collection created specifically for this event!
I was pretty excited to see the collection and I just love to see when someone manages to put all the effort and make something like this happen.
I met three lovely ladies in the Strait street in Valletta shortly after 6PM that Saturday and besides enjoying their exhibition called NAXRA (clothes where hanging on the balconies) I had a word with them too.
Enjoy the interview with Lorraine, Leanne Lewis and Thea Vella below.
1. How did you get on this project?
Lorraine: My sister, Leanne Lewis saw the call for application for Notte Bianca 2013 Projects, and approached Thea Vella and myself, to team up with her and design a clothes collection for this occasion. We had brain storming sessions, created a mood board and subsequently applied for the Moda project.
2. Where did you get the inspiration from?
Lorraine: We got our inspiration from Valletta. To be precise, we fell in love with the contrast emerging in the City between the current renovations and the older buildings. We found that the way these two worlds are blending together is so fascinating that we decided to design the clothes for this project on this concept. Everything evolved with this idea in mind. We opted to go for a minimalistic design to represent today’s trends and chose to add patterns to them, which are found in Valletta’s building architecture and the City grid design. We continued by choosing a mix of bold, neutral and rich colours that best represent Valletta to give a prestigious look and feel to the collection. We agreed to use blue and gold colours, for their intensity and richness that represent our sea, palaces, and the Baroque influence, plus the honey colour of the Maltese stone to balance the collection out.
With regards to fabric we chose, Cotton Jersey, Cotton Satin, Cortell, Silk Chiffon, Synthetic Linen and Chiffon to achieve comfort and elegance.
We feel we managed to create an original, rich, yet harmonious collection from the ideas we put together, coupled with a touch of elegance, comfortable, ready to wear collection that transmits energy and flexibility, exactly as we see Valletta.
3. The best moment on this journey?
Lorraine: The whole journey was an amazing experience, from sketching to receiving the go ahead to participate, choosing the material etc, but I guess the best moment was, when we saw our clothes hanging and seeing people’s reaction when passing by our work.
4. And what’s next?
Lorraine: Working on more projects both individually and together and keep participating in more events. Also we are all planning to keep on studying and develop our creativity in the Art and Fashion sector.
5. What are you planning to do with the collection?
Organize a photoshoot and put the collection outfits up for sale on our Valletta Collection page on facebook.
I am proud to know these girls and I will support them all the way. Can’t wait to see the clothes on a model!
Connect with the girls on their facebook page and check out what are they up to!Read More

Last Friday I went down to Sliema for an event at MERC shop.
If you haven’t heard about this shop, it’s a UK brand with a selection of shirts, trousers, parkas, harrington jackets, shoes and accessories for men and women.
It’s a small shop few doors up from The Plaza Shopping Centre. Despite the size, there were too many shirts and sweaters I liked.
I know they have tons of offers going on till Christmas and they also have a competition to win great prizes.
Go have a look it’s worth it!
Blue shirt from H&M
Black trousers from Stradivarius
Jacket from Bershka
Handbag from Dorothy Perkins
Shoes from boohoo.com
On Friday I am going home to Slovakia for Christmas. I just can’t wait to see my family and snow!
I wish you all a wonderful Christmas Holiday!
I have a confession to make.
There were 4 events last weekend I just didn’t make it to and I feel really bad about it.
On Friday there was an inauguration of MANGO shop in Paola and Michael Kors jewelery launch at the Portomaso Casino, on Saturday MEXX was celebrating their 15th Anniversary at Bay Street Shopping Complex and on Sunday there was a fashion show at Casablanca Lounge organised by Modelle International.
Do I have an excuse? Yes. It was raining. Very lame I know.
But at least I did manage to go to the opening of The Strand hairstylist, new hair salon just right next to TexMex and Medasia by very talented, award winning hairstylist Annalise. Salon looks very bright, decorated with photos by Federico Peltretti. Go and have a look, or booking an appointment sounds better
Fine, got that out of my chest and now I can show you what my winter essentials are.
I bought this jacket during my recent visit in Madrid. You can read all about Madrid style in my post for eve.com.mt.
I always liked leather jackets and I know they simply never go out of fashion, it’s something you buy once and can wear forever, but they just don’t seem to suit me.
I am also not a big fan of black, when it comes to clothes. When I saw this jacket in Bershka it reminded me of Isabel Marant style, and when I tried it on I didn’t want to take it off. I like that zip detailing on the side and khaki green goes great with the rest of my winter wardrobe.
It’s not just another scarf to make me look good. It’s a super trendy camouflage scarf that keeps me warm and I am very happy I bought it. And again in Madrid.
It was end of October when I was there, still pretty warm in Malta, so I didn’t get much warm clothes with me. Once I got to Madrid I had to buy winter clothes just to make sure I don’t freeze my ass off. This scarf saved me, and it’s soooo in too! I bought it in Bershka as well.
Camouflage is a big trend this winter and you can read how to wear it in my previous blog here.
If there is one thing I obsess about it’s shoes. Even if the rest of the outfit is not the best, shoes must look good! It’s the first thing I look at when I meet someone.
So that famous day in Madrid after I bought the jacket and a scarf, I also bought trousers. They call them peg or harem or even sweatpants or just baggy pants from Stradivarius.
I was planning to go out and check out some clubs in Madrid later in the evening but the only shoes I got where my shiny gold wedge hi-tops. I had to buy heeled shoes. Warm heeled shoes. It didn’t take me long to grab a pair from Stradivarius. They go perfectly with my trousers and the jacket.
These are three items I will be wearing most of the time this winter.
What are yours?
I am running a small competition where you could win a FREE ticket to NYE party by Events by Martin at The Villa in Balluta Bay.
